    ...finally...

Apple has dropped the ball here. Now that most laptops ship with the same chips, Apple can't claim the "Mhz Myth" or anything like that. They will have to keep up to speed, no pun intended.

dude, the operating system is better. it isnt just the cpu.

I played for about 90 minutes last night. I am impressed with the graphics but focused on the story (solo/coop), seems like more of the same. I mean it's good but as with most sequels and for me especially after the 5th time around, it's feeling a bit repetitive. Maybe as I get farther into it I'll get more excited. :)

I'm also to the point of getting a MacBook for my next computer so I can bring it to work... I am SO much more efficient on my Mac than on my work PC. It's mostly due to expose, spotlight, and the dashboard.

I've already two computers on my desk at work, both of which are XP boxes, and I'd still rather bring my (as soon as C2D ships) MBP to work on that. Though I don't know if I'd actually want to hook it into the network at work. It's a pretty shady one.

Of course, not having had an macintel before, I have a question about parallels. How easy is it really to switch between the two systems? Is it a PITA or is it pretty easy? For me, it's easy to move from computer to computer to work with very little productivity lost. How much time does it take to switch between OS's when using Parallels?

    Thanks.

650 MB download to update my 4G iPod touch.

607 MB download to update my iPad 2.

THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE, in my humble opinion. http://www.en.kolobok.us/smiles/standart/negative.gif

Why can't Apple design their updates so you no longer need to essentially download the whole iOS code? Even Microsoft in their Service Packs for Windows XP/Vista/7 "polls" the system to determine the actual Service Pack download size, so in many cases the download is actually quite small. Of course, I'd like to see Apple allow for incremental updates like how Google does it with the Chrome web browser--done in the background and unobtrusively.

The old posts are hilarious & full of negative comments about how the iPod will flop. The advice for Apple to get out of the "gadget" business are very funny.

    Interesting how things change, the forum following the iPhone launch couldn't have been any more different;

This is a breathtaking device that I can see alot of people wanting, especially me! I wonder who they will partner with in the UK? Congrats Apple Inc!

Very impressive! Worth the standing ovation and the $6 gain in AAPL share price.

    Now the long wait begins.

How they kept the name "iPhone" is impressive in its own right!

Fantastic! Palm's CEO going to be eating his words now. 1%. That's funny. They are going to blow by that in the first month.

Amazing how things change over time, from Apple should do gadgets and just focus on computers, to this in less than six years!

Does your screw stick out a little bit or is it leveled with the plastic?

In 40 years let's see how Justin Beiber and Lady Bla Bla are selling. Rock on Beatles!

I don't know. The biggest seller in the UK, even now, is Sir Cliff Richard and he was knighted before Sir Paul McCartney.

If I start taking 1 dollar bets today that it won't happen tomorrow I could probably have enough money to buy one when it does. However, Since I remain optimistic I won't. :D

I've come close 2 times to selling my Apple gift card. 3 Strikes & I'm out.

    If you try going to:

    www.apple.com/movies

it gives you a page that says:

    403 Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /movies on this server.

    Does this mean anything?

Reading the reactions to iPod in 2001 were hilarious. It shows how far we've come in our trust of Apple, I'm not speaking as an expert. Now it seems like if Steve Jobs breathes we'll buy it. I am sad to see the iPod go I have 120gb and may have to upgrade before they go. I use every kb of mine.

Yep, more than twice as much as OSX ($199) costs. And that's for XP...

Actually, at $579 Vista Ultimate is ~3x more expensive than OSX. That's just crazy.

I always hear people say, "I don't like the Beatles, but I like this song..."

    What does this mean???

Is it me, or are they confused...

I am one of the folks who say that. I am not a fan of the band or group. It might mean I don't like what they might stand for, or their individual ideas so I don't buy every thing they do or did. It usually means that I don't like the sound or style of the bulk of their catalog. An example would be not liking a particular genre of music but finding one song I enjoy out of that genre. I don't like country music as a type but I have a few songs in my library that are country tunes. But I might put all that aside and enjoy one or two songs from an artist that I don't particularly like. I have had artists that I liked so much I bought everything they did only to later look back and say wha??? Why did I do that?

I don't understand why people complain about the closed nature of the app store. They usually point to the web as the alternate: a glorious world of completely open development where there is no Big Brother vindictively squashing would-be developers hopes and dreams.

Point taken, but let's be honest about the pros and cons of this panacea. Where do trojans, worms, and viruses live? On the web. DDoS attacks? Web. XSS? Web. Without any sort of approval, all of the good and the bad finds its way onto your devices. So yes, perhaps there are some good apps out there that were rejected by Apple. But that approval process keeps those 30+ million iPhones and iPod Touches humming along without data being corrupted or stolen (Rickrolling jailbroken iPhone worm notwithstanding. Again, once you go outside of this "overbearing" control-freak company, you're vulnerable).

One reason seldom mentioned is people who like a dozen or two Beatles songs but because they are spread across 10 different albums have never bought the CDs.

Now they can buy (just) the songs they like. And I did. (Bought 12 last night and will probably get another 5 or 10.)

steve is right, the basic thing is the ipod works well, and it is very simple to use. Itunes helps everything by being a first class program that is always getting frequent updates.

only thing is, apple needs to let record labels/artists come up with variable pricing.

so catalog albums will cost less, and labels can get money from singles.

I think that the more, the merrier.

I'd would be cool to keep the hype about the iPod high, including a completely new funcionality in mp3 players. IMHO, it would capitalize more sales to Apple and a whole knew interest in iPods.

Specially now that Microsoft confirmed the Zune...

Are you sure you're looking at the Battery's serial number? My Powerbook's number starts with a W, but the battery starts with 3K...etc.

Yeah, low and behold my battery still starts with a W. If I didn't have battery issues I wouldn't be complaining. But as of now my computer doesn't qualify but I DO in fact have battery issues.

My local BB in Garner, N.C. had "some". I don't know how many. I was walking in for a different reason and saw 2 people in line at the security guy who hovers at the door when you leave. They had clear shopping bags each with an obvious iPad 2 within. They were getting their receipts checked as they were walking out.

When I finally made it to the computer section, I did not see any lines so assume they were gone or not a mad rush as expected from today's sale. It was about 30 mins after opening.

SIRI rocks! The BEST, by far, voice recognition right out of the gate I have EVER tried-it is quite amazing and I wish Apple all the best integrating it-great choice! Put it into a remote control to provide functions- "turn to sports channel" " record this movie" "next, previous" etc.............
